Snail mucus – good from nature with versatile properties
Snail mucus is one of the most valued raw materials used in cosmetics. Considering the fact that it is a remedy for most skin problems, its popularity is fully justified. The use of natural ingredients in cosmetics, however, should be supported by science. Therefore, in order for the mucus to be found in the cream, mask or serum, it must first follow the appropriate path, e.g. purification and stabilization. Only after undergoing such a process, we obtain a full-fledged snail slime filtrate, which can be an ingredient of cosmetic products. We can distinguish two types of mucus produced by the snail: limosine and cryptosine.
In the cosmetics industry, however, only the properties of cryptosin are used. The valuable composition of the mucus is responsible for the unique action of the mucus, which includes, among others, : allantoin, collagen, elastin, glycolic acid, antioxidants, proteins, antimicrobial peptides and vitamins A, D and E.
Each of these ingredients has a beneficial effect on the condition and appearance of our skin. Allantoin accelerates the reconstruction of the epidermis and has a soothing and regenerating effect. Collagen and elastin are responsible for the density, firmness and elasticity of the skin and reduce wrinkles. Glycolic acid, in turn, intensively binds water in the epidermis and supports the treatment of acne.
